I want you to avoid the dark side of success

As a founder you have to push yourself

There is so much to think about, to learn, to drive forward. This makes it really hard to switch off your mind. To be present with family or friends, to relax and recuperate

This is fine for a while, but risks your business, your relationships and health. This is the dark side of success, which I know from my own experience (see below)

The Pain

  • 90% of us fail. 74% of founders report mental health issues. 36% suffer severe burnout

  • We are driven - compelled - to make the change the world needs

  • But the psychological pain of founder life is no joke

The Ripple Effect

  • When you are healthy, grounded, calm, then those around you benefit

  • No one wants to live with a drama-queen founder!

  • A peaceful founder will more likely be good and do good

The Business

  • Living out some grinding-hustle-fantasy works for a while. But entrepreneurship is a long game

  • If you are isolated, stressed, burnt out - what do you think the chances of a winning business is?

  • You are the fundamental asset. If you break, the business breaks

I’m Dan - I’m an “all in” kinda founder

I can laugh about it now (kinda)

I’ve been a founder since 2001. Built x2 7 figure digital agencies, and exited them. Won awards. Nice houses and holidays

My drive - my commitment to the mission - won me the game of fame and money. But it came at a very high price. I failed to find balance at work and at home

My relationships hollowed out

I got ill with burnout and depression

I was out of shape

It was down to one reason: I was not able to systematically find peace of mind - to switch off and find the headspace to invest in things that mattered

2001
Launched a business at age 27 - went really well really quickly - we made a bunch of money - and got a big industry rep - alongside a big head

2007
Now a 30-something with 2 small kids, went to Ibiza and came back with pneumonia and adrenal fatigue #WINNING

2013
Diagnosed with clinical depression - 3 kids - hit 40 - got health better - reverted to 90s party habits

2015
Fame, money, international travel - repeat of ego inflation - spoiler alert, won’t end well

2017
Health / businesses / relationships blew up… SAD! Documented in my top 2.5% global podcast Honey I Blew Up The Business

2018
Had to rebuild my life. I discovered the ability to systematically switch off, find peace of mind. I then created new set of patterns and habits - which I call The Groove

2023
Sold my shares in my 20 year tech business to launch The FAM!
